Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV) is one of those miracle products that can be used in numerous aspects of your life. I have only recently started using it as part of my daily routine. I must admit that my main motivation for incorporating ACV to my diet is weight loss (one of its many health benefits). I recently registered for Muderella (women’s obstacle course) in September and this has now motivated me to shed my post…post…baby weight. After going through my notes from nutrition school and reading a few articles, ACV seemed like a logical addition to my health plan. Low and behold it is great for other things as well. So far, the most evident to me is the energy I get during the day. Since I started taking ACV I don’t get that afternoon lull I used to get, even after chasing my two little monkeys around all day. I also feel like I am losing some weight but I think that may just be wishful thinking at this point. Since it has only been a couple of weeks of me taking it, I think I should give it some more time. I will keep everyone posted on how it works for me.
So what are the health benefits of ACV? I have listed and explained some of them for you here.
Diabetes: ACV is said to have a positive effect on blood sugar. Also thought of as an anti-glycemic, ACV interferes with the breakdown of carbohydrates which ultimately slows the sugar from entering your blood stream.
Heart Health: ACV has been known to decrease cholesterol. The acetic acid in the ACV can lower triglycerides (type of fat in blood) and VLDL (bad cholesterol). It has also been known to decrease blood pressure and reduce cardiovascular disease.
Sinus Congestion: ACV has antibacterial properties and helps break down mucous.
Sore Throats: The antibacterial properties can help with a sore throat.
Weight Loss: ACV helps you to feel satiated so that you consume less food in a day. Also, as mentioned earlier it interferes with the breakdown of carbohydrates which slows the sugar from entering your blood stream.
ACV also has other great uses such as
- A toner for your skin to regulate pH levels
- Hair rinse after shampooing to make hair shine
- Help reduce heart burn
- Helps to detox the liver
- Soothes sunburned skin
- Removes stains from your teeth
- To clean your house (toilets, windows, tubs, etc.)
I hope that I was able to shed some light on this amazing product. Try incorporating it into your life and let me know what you think!
One note that I want to add is that the information provided is my opinion based on research I have done. I am not a doctor and am not prescribing cures for any ailments, conditions or illnesses. Please always consult your healthcare provider. Also, ACV can possibly interact will some medications such as diuretics, laxatives, medications for heart disease and medication for diabetes.
